Fols. 1–22 and 23–56 may originally stem from different manuscripts. The former section has suffered more damage and is more heterogeneous in its contents than the later section. Fols. 52–56 differ in contents from the rest of the volume, but are written by the same hand as fols. 23–51.

The first section (fols. 1–22) is notably dirtier than the rest of the volume.

II: Fols. 23–56: probably only one hand writing a cursive of saec. XVI with different inks. This hand appears to be the same, which is mainly responsible for the beginning of another of Gustav Fincke's copybook, Uppsala, University Library, Nordin 164.

The manuscript contains a copybook of official correspondence between Russia and Sweden, reports from envoys sent to Russia and documents concerning the peace treaties. The volume contains two parts: the first includes documents mostly related to the 1520s and 1530s; the second, documents from the 1550s. Codicological and palaeographical differences suggest they belong to separate writing campaigns.

The copybook has been associated with Gustav Fincke (d. 1566) who in 1555–1557 was responsible for the defence of the eastern border against Russia. Fincke's involvement is suggested by the fact that the copybook stems from Kankas collection, which held other copybooks securely attached to Fincke by name. The second part of the book may well have been instigated by Fincke, by the date of the material. However, the first part contains documents predating Fincke's career, and must belong to an earlier process.

The copybook stems from the Kankas collection, which contained several copybooks with material related to Gustav Fincke and his offices. According to a note on the inner front cover, the current volume represents only a part of the original; the remainder is to be found in Stockholm, National Archives, Kopiesamling, vol. 14.

According to a note after fol. 22, the copybooks were taken from Kankas to the Court of Appeals in Turku in 1706. From there, they were later moved to the National Archives in Stockholm.
