                  rend="italic">Pater noster</hi>, a variant of <persName role="translator"
                  >Laurentius Petri</persName>’s translation in the Swedish hymnal of
                  <date>1562</date>, after <persName role="author">Martin Luther</persName>’s German
                setting <hi rend="italic">Vater vnser im himelreich</hi>), a latin sentence and his
                signature, all without notation.</p>

              <p>The sanctoral reflects Lutheran tastes, with St <persName role="saint"
                >Henry</persName>, the patron-saint of <country>Finland</country>, being the only non-biblical saint.
                There are occasional reformatory changes to the texts of the offices, see e.g.
                  <locus>fol. 168r</locus>. There is also contemporary marginalia noting the
                biblical sources of chants (e.g. fols. <locus>174v</locus>–<locus>179v</locus>). The
                additions date from <date type="addition" from="1575" to="1632">saec. XVI 4/4–XVII
                  1/3</date>: they must postdate the <date type="publication">1583</date>
                publication of Finno’s hymnary, and the last additions are made by <persName role="scribe">Michael Erici</persName>
                (see below).</p>

                  These six folia have probably originally formed the last quire of the manuscript.
                  Fol. 223 is also misplaced and belongs between 212 and 213.</condition>

              <p>Several different hands writing varieties of Gothic Cursive and Humanist Minuscule.
                Given the amount of missing text it appears that the notation has been copied first
                and the text after that, perhaps over a longer period of time. Text for recurring
                chants such as the <hi rend="italic">Magnificat</hi> appear in places to have been
                copied last, and are at times missing.</p>

            <decoDesc>
              <p>Monochromatic pen-drawn Gothic majuscules for the initials of chants. Larger
                initials for individual feasts were projected but to a large extent left unexecuted;
                the large Gothic majuscules with monochromatic flourishing in the paschal offices
                (on fols. <locus>118r</locus>–<locus>121v</locus>) may be later additions. Rubrics
                appear erratically, and are often distinguished by being written entirely in
                majuscules.</p>

            <bindingDesc>
              <p>A <date type="binding" from="1800" to="1899">saec. XIX</date> quarter-leather binding, with the erroneous title ‘MISSALE cum notis
                musicis’ and ‘MSC.’ tooled in gold on the spine. On the front cover the university
                library stamp with the legend ‘Otium sapientis 1761’, in gold. The front and back
                pastedowns/flyleaves appear to have been replaced relatively recently.</p>

            <origin>A copy of a <title>Dominican antiphonary</title> produced for Lutheran use in the <origDate
                from="1550" to="1599">second half of the sixteenth century</origDate>. </origin>
            <provenance>
              <p><locus>Fol. 9v</locus> has the signature of <persName role="owner">Michael Erici</persName> in a hand of <date from="1600" to="1699">saec. XVII</date>. Two priests with
                that name are known from this period: the chaplain at <placeName>Kirkkonummi</placeName> in <date>1605</date>
                (<bibl>Strandberg 1832, vol. 1, 365</bibl>) and the castle preacher at <placeName>Turku castle</placeName> in <date>1634–35</date>
                (<bibl>Leinberg 1903, 252</bibl>). The latter’s hand is found in two documents attached to the
                records of taxes from <placeName>Masku</placeName> in <date>1633–34</date> (<ref type="ms">Helsinki, National Archives, 1905, fol.
                  184r, and 1916, fol. 184r</ref>), and seems to be the same as that found writing on the
                present <locus>fol. 9v</locus>.</p>
