                <condition>The leaves are lightly stained or somewhat dirty and the edges are
                  frayed. The manuscript has been extensively restored, with paper glued to frayed
                  edges. A number of leaves after fol. 28 seem to have gone missing at a very early
                  stage, as the last Kyrie-sequence, beginning on <locus>fol. 28v</locus>, was
                  completed by another, roughly contemporary scribe, through the insertion of fol.
                  29. There is still a lacuna between the present fols. 29 and 30, and between fols.
                  30 and 31.</condition>

              <p>Pen-drawn Gothic majuscules for the beginnings of chants, larger Gothic versals

                decorated in red, which has also been used for some of the rubrics, on <locus>fols.

            <bindingDesc>
              <p>A modern, full-leather binding with raised bands, incorporating parts of the
                original leather covers, and with the original clasps. Pastedowns/flyleaves have
                been replaced. The old covers have been decorated with blind-tooled frames, and the
                front cover with stamps spelling ‘9 IS 6’. The letters likely refer to the owner
                ‘Iacob Sigfredsson’ and the numbers probably represent the year <date type="binding">1596</date>.</p>

          <history>
            <origin>A <title>Lutheran gradual</title> copied apparently by one scribe at the <origDate from="1575" to="1599">end of the sixteenth
              century</origDate> and probably repaired (fol. 29) at the <date from="1600" to="1624">beginning of the seventeenth century</date>.
              The scribe could have been <persName role="scribe">Jacob Sigfriedhsson</persName>, but this can no longer be ascertained
              since his ownership mark has been lost. </origin>
            <provenance>
              <p>The old front flyleaf of the book had a notice reading ‘Thenne Book haffuer Jag
                Jacob Sigfredhson skriffuidt för min Lijckstooll, När gudh kallar migh af denne
                sårgha daall’ in a hand that matched the main hand of the book (<bibl>Schalin 1956,
                  52</bibl>). The notice (and other more trivial notes cited by Schalin) seems to
                have been lost when the binding was restored. A <persName role="owner">Jacobus
                  Sigfridi Borgensis</persName> is attested as chaplain in <placeName
                  type="provenance">Pietarsaari</placeName> in <date>1585</date> and as curate of
                the parish of <placeName>Uusikaarlepyy</placeName> in <date from="1607" to="1625"
                  >1607–1625</date> (<bibl>Leinberg 1903, 152, 165</bibl>).</p><p>On the back
                pastedown: ‘S-76-6-850’</p>

              <p>The book ended up in <placeName>Pirkkala</placeName>, and belonged to
                <placeName>Tampere</placeName> Cathedral chapter until it came to the <orgName>National Library of Finland</orgName>.</p>
