                <condition><p>The manuscript is a composite of two different booklets that were
                    copied nearly a hundred years apart. It is uncertain as to whether the later
                    booklet, written in <origDate>1597</origDate>, was copied to be added to the
                    earlier manuscript or originally formed an independent manuscript.</p><p>Fol. 57
                    was torn and later restored. The missing text has been supplied on the mended
                    section by a hand of <date type="addition" from="1600" to="1699">saec.
                      XVII</date>. Fol. 94 partly torn and repaired with a paper slip.</p><p>The
                    manuscript is in good general condition. There are some darkened folia and some
                    of the leaves have been torn, but there is practically no loss of
                    text.</p><p>The quire structure of the first part is in places extremely
                    difficult to reconstruct owing to the insertion of singletons leaves and
                    additional quires, presumably done when the codex was rebound. The unnumbered
                    leaves have been marked with square brackets in the collation here. Four such
                    leaves have been inserted in the middle of the quire between fols. 60 and 61;
                    six leaves have been inserted between fols. 74 and 75.</p></condition>

                script. <title><hi rend="italic">Stadslagen</hi></title> written at the beginning of
                  <origDate>1597</origDate> (several chapters have been dated in January or March)
                by a Finn ‘<persName role="scribe">Jören Oluffzon Somalaynen</persName> Huittensi’
                (fol. <locus>193r</locus>) in a more carefully executed cursive. Alphabetical
                registers to the laws written by other, possibly older,
                hands.</p>
              <p>Additions and comments written in the <title><hi rend="italic">Landslagen</hi></title> by a
                contemporary hand. Parts of these additions have been cropped away in several
                places. A hand of <date type="addition" from="1600" to="1699">saec. XVII</date> also
                makes some marginal notes and additions.</p>

                in the same or the other colour. Rubrics, chapter numbers and paraphs in red or

                some include decorative patterns in red and blue. The part begins with a title-page,
                which contains a coat of arms featuring the initials of the scribe, <persName

            <origin><p>The manuscript contains two different parts. The first, containing King
              <persName role="author">Kristoffer</persName>’s <title><hi rend="italic">Landslag</hi></title>, was written in <origDate>1500</origDate> by an Uppsala
              scribe. The second, containing King <persName role="author">Magnus Eriksson</persName>’s <title><hi rend="italic"
                >Stadslag</hi></title>, was written in <origDate>1597</origDate> by a Finnish scribe. According to <bibl>Schlyter
                  (1865, XXVII, XLIV)</bibl> it is likely that the <hi rend="italic">Stadslag</hi>-section of
              the manuscript was copied from the one written in Turku 1552, <ref type="mss">Stockholm, National Library, Rålambs samling 4<hi rend="superscript">o</hi> 143</ref>.</p><p>Part II was
                certainly in <origPlace>Finland</origPlace>, when it was written in 1597. It is more difficult to be
                definitive about part I. However, judging from the loss of marginal notes in part I,
                it seems likely that it was rebound, and that this happened shortly after the
                writing of the second part. Also, the ownership markings on the covers postdate the
                second part and presumably stem from a date when both booklets were within the same
                covers.</p></origin>
            <provenance>
              <p>The first
                part of the manuscript was written by a city scribe from Uppsala in <origDate>1500</origDate>.</p><p>The
                  second part of the manuscript was written in <origDate>1597</origDate> in <origPlace>Finland</origPlace>. The sections were
                dated in January and March. Since the marking on the cover postdate the second part,
                they presumably refer to a date when the manuscripts were combined. </p><p>In <date type="acquisition">1616</date> the manuscript was inherited by <persName role="owner">Johannes Nicolai Finno</persName>. Inner
                front cover: ‘Possessio Johannis Nicolai Wenno Aboici quam jure hæreditario sibi
                acquisivit Anno 1616 Cal. Martii’. Johannes Nicolai Wenno started his career in
                  <placeName>Turku</placeName> in the 1620s at the latest and later became the parson of <placeName>Mynämäki</placeName> (see <bibl>Turun
                hiippakunnan paimenmuisto 1554–1721, online database. Studia Biographica 9.
